The Strahov Court is the oldest Premonstratensian monastery in Bohemia. It is located in the neighborhood of the Prague Castle. It was founded in the middle of the 12th century. The first abbey was built in Romanesque style, but the complex was several times rebuilt. The current appearance comes from its Baroque reconstruction.
The heart of the complex is the Basilica of Assumption of Our Lady, beautifully decorated with frescoes and dedicated to St Norbert.
The monastery contains the real treasure of priceless values, consisting of the library which houses over 200,000 volumes, of which 3,000 are original manuscripts. There is a guided tour through the interior of the Strahov Library which is located in two beautiful halls (Theology and Philosophy).
The monastery also houses a picture gallery with a valuable collection of Gothic, baroque, rococo and romantic art. From the garder of the monastery there is an amazing view over Prague.
