Kokořín is located in a region with deep forests, valleys and characteristic sandstone rocks. The trip there is like a return to nature, with many places for swimming and great trails for hiking in quiet and peace forests.
The Kokořín castle was built in the first half of the 14th century by Hynek Berka z Dubé. It was largely damaged during Hussite Wars in the 15th century.

The castle is situated in a landscape of sandstone, small lakes and villages only 50 km from Prague. At the end of the 19th century it was bought by Václav Špaček, the Prague businessman, when it was only a deserted ruin. He reconstructed the castle expensively and in cooperation with historicians and opened it to the public. He built there a recreational facility, a swimming pool and tennis courts (below the castle) and made from Kokořín a popular recreational and tourist destination.
